Ever since there were dreams, people dreamt of speed. In a dream, there is no weight and you are free to fly. It’s a brand new world, filled with dazzling lights and muted sounds. At first, you make a running start and do a brisk jump. Your weightless body easily rises above the trees. Wind brushes against your face and yet you keep your eyes open. The power of your thoughts takes you up. You then soar above the clouds and into space. You become as fast as your thoughts. There is no looking back, only forward and up. Gravity disappears and the ground becomes a tiny brown speck. New worlds open up to you but you can’t fully control where you’re going. If you try controlling your dream, you will instantly wake up. Horseriding is the closest we’ll ever get to that same feeling of flying in a dream. In the saddle, the dream becomes real and reality becomes dreamy. Boundaries disappear and limitations fade away. Past, present and future coalesce into a fine point of awareness. In this waking dream, the horse is your spirit guide through the world. You realize the immense, primal power of the horse only when you climb on it. You feel that the mighty creature beneath you is a tight ball of tendon and muscle, ready to spring into action. Perfected by the millennia, the horse is steady, strong and stable. The horse then starts moving and you realize it can be as fast as thought. At first, it’s a walk that then becomes a trot and turns into a canter. Finally, the horse starts galloping and you two fly together. Wind brushes against your face and yet you keep your eyes open. There is no looking back, only going forward and up. The power of the horse takes you forward, faster and faster. All thoughts and emotions become one—speed. Breathless, you latch on to the saddle and grab the reins. You steel your heart and clear your mind. Raw energy rushes into you and you feel it down to your core. Sounds and sights become a blur as sheer speed overwhelms you.
Being relaxed and in control is the key to dream flying. Trying to grip tightly to the dream will make it end too soon. Being relaxed will allow the dream to unfold. The same applies to horseback riding. You are meant to nudge your dream just a little bit. You give your dream the initial spark. It will then take on a life of its own and go wherever it pleases. Enjoy the ride and savor the dream. It will happen this exact same way only once and never again. You are both the creator and the observer. Don’t focus on anything and keep your mind clear. Have faith that all will happen as it’s meant to. Have confidence in your destiny that’s guided you all this way, to this moment. The stars aligned to bring you here and now. You exist for this experience and this experience exists for you. One step after another, you reached a new stage in your life. It is a perfect match of thought, emotion and raw power that takes you to the stars. For a brief moment, you feel in sync with the Universe and like you can touch the stars themselves.
You exist within the Universe and it exists within you. To be set free from the world that is, you need overwhelming speed. That’s when you leave all the earthly worries behind and feel sheer joy. Through this intense emotion and experience, you feel that bond to the Universe. On a galloping horse, you briefly leave Earth and reach for the stars. The heaven parts and you can see the vast space beyond. It beckons and promises boundless riches. All of it becomes clear during the ride. This is what life is meant to be. We are meant to live a dream, to make dreams come true.
Time stops. The rider and the horse move as one. Hooves hit the ground and kick up dust. You feel each step in your entire body. Mane flutters in gusts and whips you but you don’t even notice it.
